Standard Licensure Renewal Process

Using a Clock Hour Form, submit your clock hours and additional requirements to the Human Resource Department at 360 Colborne.  Clock hour are approved by the Relicensure Committee monthly throughout the school year.  Submit copies of your clock hours only when you have 125 clock hours and all additional requirements have been met. You cannot carry clock hours forward into any subsequent

five-year licensure period.

1.       Once the Relicensure Committee has reviewed your information your documentation will be returned to you with a Summary Report. 

2.      If all requirements have been met, in January of the year your license expires go on-line at Minnesota Department of Education Licensing and submit for renewal.  On-line renewal is now mandatory by Minnesota Department of Education (MDE).

3.      You must turn in an original green license to the Human Resource Department.

Standard License

A Standard five-year teaching license must earn 125 clock hours during each five-year licensure period from July 1 of the year of issuance, to June 30 of the year of expiration. Clock hours must be obtained within the five year period of your license.  In addition to the 125 clock hours necessary to relicense, you will also need to fulfill four other requirements, listed under categories R, S, T, and U on the Clock Hour Form.  If clock hours you have already received cover any of the requirements (R, S, T, and U) check the appropriate box on the Clock Hour form or use the information below to fulfill the requirements necessary.

R      Positive Behavioral Intervention Strategies:

               Can be obtained by watching a video entitled "Being Flexible".

S    Accommodation, modification and adaptation of curriculum, materials, and instruction to appropriately meet the needs of varied students in achieving graduation standards.

T       Reading (comprehensive, scientifically based reading instruction).

      Can be obtained at reading.spps.org   Follow the directions on the website to receive a certificate.  For questions regarding the Reading website only contact Georgann Oothoudt at 651-793-5582.

U   The ability to detect the early warning signs of mental illness. The ability to detect the early warning signs of mental illness.

Can be obtained by taking a 2 hour course presented by St. Paul Public Schools, Special Education Department.  To register or for further information regarding this course only contact Kathy Lombardi at 651-293-8923.

PD Express is a database where SPPS teachers can view a calendar and course description of available professional development opportunities as well as register for workshops.  Here is the information you need to access this tool:
