Achievement of Tenure Program and Professional Development

The Achievement of Tenure Program is designed to provide in-depth support for new teachers and to familiarize them with key components and strategies to be effective in their specific field.  Probationary teachers will: be observed and evaluated by an administrator at least twice per year; be provided with a mentor; and participate in the appropriate three-year Achievement of Tenure Program.  Completion of the components of the Achievement of Tenure Program is required by all K-12 licensed teachers hired after September 1, 2005.

A first year teacher will participate in Foundations, formerly ER&D (Educational Research and Dissemination), offered through the Saint Paul Federation of Teachers and available for registration on pdexpress.spps.org.  Second and third year teachers will participate in several different courses depending on their focus.  Each course description is provided in the Achievement of Tenure catalog.  This catalog details a sequence of professional development workshops that must be completed by K-12 licensed personnel in order to achieve tenure in Saint Paul Public Schools.  All teachers requesting participation in Achievement of Tenure courses should go to http://pdexpress.spps.org/mypdc2007/.  All courses required are denoted with ‘AT’ within the course/workshop title.

The Center for Academic Excellence also has a Career in Education website.  The website features information on the achievement of tenure process, professional development for tenured teachers and the teacher assistance program.  Click here Career in Education for more information.
