Saint Paul Public Schools Offers Benefits to it's employee.
Employee Eligibility: If you are scheduled to work 20 hours or more and you are a regular (not temporary) employee, you are eligible for insurance beginning one month following your employment start date. If you are newly eligible, you will be invited to a benefits orientation during which you will learn about the various insurance options. Benefit elections are made using our automated eBenefits Administration electronic on-line enrollment system “Employee Self Service”. If you have questions regarding online enrollment or general benefit questions you can contact the Benefits Department at 651.767.8212. If you do not complete the on-line enrollment within 30 days of your eligibility date, you will not have coverage until the next open enrollment opportunity, unless core coverage is required under your respective bargaining unit. Please refer to your labor agreement or the benefits summary for your employee type to view eligibility criteria.
Dependent Eligibility: Eligible dependents of eligible employees may participate in the medical and dental plans as well. These include spouse, child(ren), stepchild(ren), foster child(ren), adopted child(ren), and child(ren) under legal guardianship. Children are considered dependent up to age 26 or unmarried without age restriction if disabled and incapable of self-care. If grandchild(ren), employee must be responsible for majority of support of the child(ren) for eligibility. Parents and domestic partners are not eligible dependents, as defined in the master contract with the healthcare provider. Your dependents are eligible on the day you become eligible, on the date you acquire that dependent, on the date of or the first of the month following a qualifying status change, as applicable.

The definition of “eligible dependent” for medical and dental insurance has recently changed!
Under recent healthcare reform legislation, dependents are eligible for coverage on your medical and/or dental plan to age 26 starting January 1, 2011. Your dependent(s) does not have to be a full-time student, an eligible tax dependent, or unmarried, according to the new law.
For additional information about the change in dependent status, contact the benefits staff within Human Resources at 651.767.8212.
